Gal is not updating

If you are not seeing correct contact information in the GAL for someone that has a valid email address (i.e.someone who just received a CUMC email account, a new student, someone who recently changed their directory information) please use the steps below to synchronize your computer's locally cached version of the GAL.Outlook is helping you complete other activities and does not allow the address book update to interfere. My computer slows down when Outlook shows the "Updating Address Book" status. In computers with slow hard disk drives, such as portable computers, or running Outlook in a Virtual machine, the process of updating the address book can slow down the computer if the hard disk is fragmented. We have another server in the wings waiting to be deployed, but we need to address the problem in the meantime. If it does not, then it is the generation or distribution process that is failing. OWA reflects the information correctly, but Outlook does not. I have tried deleting the OAB files, but when I download the address book, it still has the outdated version.I'm wondering if anyone has anyone has any tips that could help me address this issue. Are you using web or public folder distribution for the OAB? If you are on Outlook 2010, any reason you are still using public folder distribution?

Then once set, run get-offlineaddresbook | update-offlineaddressbook Wait 20 minutes or so for it to update, then check in the Application log to see if there are any generation errors.

I'm having an issue with Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2010. This problem started after we flattened our domain. We migrated all the users from the the sub to the top using the ADMT and then we took down sub. To be sure, does OWA (which uses live information) reflect the GAL correctly? The first thing you should do is on a test workstation, is delete the *files.

Essentially, the issue is the GAL is not updating in Outlook. I looked at the recipient filter of the GAL, it's below for reference: (Alias -ne $null -and (Object Class -eq 'user' -or Object Class -eq 'contact' –or Object Class -eq 'ms Exch System Mailbox' -or Object Class –eq 'ms Exch Dynamic Distribution List' -or Object Class -eq 'group' -or Object Class –eq 'public Folder')) The next thing I'm going to try is creating a new GAL and making it the default, if necessary. That will force Outlook to download a complete GAL. If so, it is probably that the incremental update files haven't updated correctly.

24/02/13 If you create a new user, give them a mailbox, and they seemingly fail to appear then don’t panic! If you receive an error message then you can investigate further (Note: Set your Outlook client to send you a delivery report on the test email as well). The easiest way to do this is simply connect to Outlook Web Access, and query the GAL directly (OWA uses the GAL no the OAB like Outlook running in cached mode does). The User/Mailbox IS listed on the Server But NOT in Outlook.

Firstly and fore mostly: If you do anything in Exchange: Apply the “cup of coffee rule”, never make a change then go and prove that change works straight away! However most of us work in the real world and you have a user who needs to use this mailbox yesterday! Then check the mailbox Exists (See Check for existence of mailbox sections below). Remember, if you are looking at the Global Address List in Outlook then you are NOT looking at the Servers Global Address List*.

In addition to this there a a few methods by which your Outlook clients get the offline address book. Outlook 2003 (and older)* clients get their OAB from a public folder, Outlook 2007 (and newer) clients can get their OAB from ‘Web-based distribution’ (basically form the website on the Exchange (or Exchange CAS) server.

  3. However it’s calculated, the cost of the global financial crisis was colossal. We are all significantly poorer today because of the stupidity, greed, irresponsibility and, often, downright criminality of a small band of financiers, mostly based in Wall Street and the City of London, whose behaviour combined to push the global financial system to the brink of total collapse.
